Glasgow Violence Against Women Partnership: About Us

The Glasgow Violence Against Women Partnership (GVAWP) was established in May 2000 with the aim of ‘promoting a strategic multi-agency response to violence against women in Glasgow’.

The GVAWP brings together a range of public and voluntary sector partners at city-wide and local levels to address the following objectives:

• Develop improved and consistent responses and services to women and their children throughout the city.
• Ensure that strategic developments which address violence against women are informed by the needs of abused women, and that the work of the Partnership is open, accessible and accountable.
• Promote a community-based response to violence against women, with the aim of reducing levels of violence against women and children, and women’s fear of violence.
• Ensure improved protection for women and their children.

The national themes of Prevention, Protection and Provision cut across all of these objectives and reflect the complex nature of violence against women and the interdependence of initiatives aimed at making improvements within these themes.
