Barriers to getting help

Asian, black and ethnic minority women do not suffer abuse to any greater or lesser extent than women in the wider community, but their situation as abused women is often aggravated by condemnation from within their own communities and sometimes racism by the host community.

Many women from ethnic minority communities are not 'agency wise' and lack the knowledge of mainstream culture and the language needed to empower them to survive. And there may be other issues that women from minority ethnic backgrounds face:
