Effects of violence on women's health

The effects of violence and abuse on women's health are considerable and include physical injuries, unwanted or difficult pregnancies, addictions, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, panic attacks and suicide attempts.

Women from all walks of life can experience male violence - no matter what age, race, colour, class, religion, sexuality or level of disability.

It is estimated that, in Glasgow, 20,000 women are affected by severe domestic violence and that another 40,000 - 60,000 will experience violence from a male partner at some time.

Children who witness abuse may experience a wide range of physical and emotional symptoms.
