Most agencies are now working towards achieving a better understanding of gender based violence and have taken steps to make it easier for women to report crimes of violence against them and their children.
New services, such as Strathclyde Police’s Family Protection Units and the Procurator Fiscal Service’s Victim Information and Advice service aim to make the process of seeking protection through the law easier for women and their children.
These agencies are part of the Glasgow Violence Against Women Partnership who have convened a working group on Civil and Criminal Justice which aims to bring key agencies together to improve women (and their children’s) experiences of civil and criminal justice processes, and to keep abreast of current policy and legislative changes that affect the protection of women and children, and contribute to preventing male violence.
