About Wise Women

Wise Women (formerly the Women's Safety Centre) was set up in 1994 to pro-actively address women's fears and experiences of violence and crime by providing free, 20 hour Personal Safety Courses to women living in local communities. We also provide information and advice for women and staff on all aspects of violence against women.

Our Personal Safety Courses

Aim to raise awareness, provide information and education and offer support and legal advice. They teach practical and accessible skills to help women identify, avoid and escape potentially dangerous situations, therefore building confidence and self-esteem and improving health through the reduction of stress and fear.

Where the courses are run

We run our courses within the eight Social Inclusion Partnership (SIP)* areas of Glasgow. We also run courses specifically for women who have similar experiences of violence and discrimination e.g. black and ethnic minority women, women with learning difficulties, women with physical and/or sensory impairments, women survivors and women involved in, at risk of or exiting prostitution.

If you would like to talk to Wise Women about courses for service users or staff, please contact us on 0141 550 7557 for details.

*Eight Glasgow Social Inclusion Partnership areas: Greater Pollok, Greater Govan, North Glasgow, Greater Easterhouse, Gorbals, East End, Drumchapel
